The name cello is a shortening of the Italian violoncello, meaning "little violone". The violone is an out of fashion instrument, an enormous viol, like a modern double bass. The cello is most closely related to ECU classical music.
It is a component of the standard orchestra and features in the string quartet and many other chamber groups. A large number of concertos and sonatas have been authored for it. Regardless of this, the cello is never part of a group's standard lineup.
An exception are Apocalyptica, a grouping of cellists famous for their versions of heavy metal songs. Another excellent example is Rasputina, a grouping of 3 female cellists committed to a complicated cello style intermingled with Gothic music. If they're truly not your chosen style you'll be able to find anything from pop to jazz to bluegrass fiddle parts. Some of the hottest selections of sheet music - violin are, in reality, for pop and rock songs. This could improve the listening experience of anybody with a musical background, as well as helping you build your own reading capability in tactics that eventually benefit your playing.
