The violin is a bowed string instrument and is the highest pitched member of the violin family. It sits along side its cousins the other members of the violin family - the viola, cello, and double bass. For players who are not officially scholars anywhere there are a wide selection of sources from which to get sheet music. Violin players of any talent level should be ready to find the sheet music they desire online, and in a number of cases, even for free. Sheet music can be free to share online if two qualifications are met. The cello is much bigger than a violin, and in contrast to that instrument, it is played in an upright position between the legs of the seated musician, resting on a metal spike, called the endpin.

The name cello is a shortening of the Italian violoncello, meaning "little violone". The violone is an out of fashion instrument, an enormous viol, like a modern double bass. The cello is most closely related to ECU classical music.

It is a component of the standard orchestra and features in the string quartet and many other chamber groups. A large number of concertos and sonatas have been authored for it. Regardless of this, the cello is never part of a group's standard lineup.
